HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THE SIGNS?

How can you not see the signs-front cover.jpg

There is nothing more important than our mental health, and mental health in the workplace is essential. Our mental health drives everything we do. It can have a ripple effect on our work and other aspects of our life. In our work, it affects our productivity, creativity, absenteeism, conflict, projects, staff turnover and stress levels. We need satisfaction, meaning and purpose. In our personal lives, it affects our relationships and our physical health.

We have a real problem around mental health in the workplace, and there’s a lot that needs to change. Many companies don’t adequately prioritise mental health. They talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk and there’s too much harmful behaviour.

Mental health conditions are real and are a significant and growing concern in the workplace.  It’s so important to take action to ensure your organisation is able to prevent, support and respond to mental health risks. Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive work environment, where mental health is openly discussed and addressed, is critical for nurturing a healthy and productive workforce.

I hope this book realises the dangers that are currently in the workplace and brings change in some way. By creating great leaders, who then create great leaders, together, we can build a safe and successful workplace for everyone.

Here's a little sneak peek

A toxic workplace is like poison

A toxic workplace is like poison

It will spread if not contained

It can make your employees very sick

So ensure its decimated

If poison runs throughout your workplace

It’ll deprive oxygen in your team

It will block all motivation

And company-wide prestige

It will increase employees' heart rates

Breathing and body temperatures

As they’re dealing with anxiety

And other pain this may endure

You’ll never be successful

With poison running through your team

It will continually kill your progress

And your employees' self-esteem...

The blame culture

The blame culture shows weak leadership

And it comes right from the top

It’s a game of finger-pointing

It’s a game that should be stopped

The blame culture is so toxic

When there’s someone else to blame

No one takes responsibility

It’s a constant game of blame and shame

There is endless finger pointing

It’s always someone else’s fault

It can create a lethal culture

It can leave the team distraught

No-one is ever responsible

For their own actions or mistakes

They hide behind another person

They do whatever it takes...

The broken human being

At the end of all this bullying

Is a broken human being

They’ve been battered and they’ve been bruised

‘Cause they had to face this adversity

They chose to join your company

With what you sold them in your interview

But you failed this human being

Because your company didn’t follow through

This was not what they agreed to

As they came to work each day

They agreed to pay and benefits

Not needing therapy along the way

They may now struggle trusting others

Or they may have PTSD

They may have depression or anxiety

They’re broken in ways you’ll never see...

Let's create the best work culture

Let’s create the best work culture

With candidates knocking down our door

Wanting to come and work with us

Because we’re challenged and empowered

They want to join our company

Because the word upon the street

Is that we can trust each other

And we’re valued as a team

They know we all show respect

And we hear each other out

We mentor and promote our staff

We know what our vision is about

We know career progression

Will keep our team wanting to stay

It’s a major factor to retention

As staff have satisfaction day to day...
